Bio:Meredith Cavallaro is a member of Paduano & Weintraub LLP and leads its Chambers-ranked Employment Practice. She has been with the firm since 2000. Her practice is devoted to all aspects of employment litigation and counseling. She defends employers nationally, and across various industries, in state and federal actions and arbitrations involving claims of discrimination, hostile work environment, equal pay violations, retaliation, equity and contract disputes, and violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act and state and local wage and hour laws. She is a fierce advocate and has obtained defense verdicts in every case she has tried. She has successfully disposed of numerous cases through motion practice and highly favorable resolutions.
Meredith leads a team that responds to and manages the complex issues that arise from workplace crises, including high-profile sexual harassment complaints. Meredith helps employers throughout the United States navigate the constantly changing landscape of labor and employment laws and regulations. She supports human resources and management teams by providing prompt, practical and proactive solutions. She advises clients on responding to internal complaints, conducts outside investigations and equal pay audits and develops meaningful workplace trainings. She works with clients to structure terminations, reorganizations, and reductions in force. She is laser focused on helping clients build and maintain a compliant workplace infrastructure consistent with their values and commercial interests.
Meredith also manages employment due diligence for clients in connection with mergers and acquisitions, and she negotiates and drafts agreements to onboard executives and other key personnel. Meredith drafts effective and meaningful policies and handbooks; she prepares employment and consulting agreements, restrictive covenant agreements and separation agreements. She creates solutions to protect clients’ trade secrets and proprietary information and to protect against post-employment competition and the solicitation of clients and other employees.
Meredith regularly advises employers on wage and hour compliance, including employee classifications, compliant recordkeeping techniques, overtime and break regulations and off-the-clock and time editing risk mitigation tools. She counsels clients on methods to mitigate collective and class action litigation risk. When wage and hour class action claims arise, she employs strategic approaches to resolve these claims at the earliest stages and in the most economical manner. She determines whether an employer has systemic wage and hour compliance risk and, if so, creates and implements effective compliance strategies.
